RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL PARTIES:
Why in News?
Recently Aam Aadmi Party Party got recognized as a National Party by Election Commission Of India as per Representation of People's Act 1951.Conditions for recognition as a National Party :
- If it secures 6% of the Valid Votes polled in any four or more States at a General Election to the Lok Sabha or Legislative Assembly and Wins four seats in the Lok Sabha from any State or States or
- If it wins 2% of Seats in Lok Sabha at a General Election and these candidates are elected from three States or
- It is recognized as a State Party in four States.
Significance of being declared a National Party /State Party?
A recognized Party (National or State) has the right to certain Privilidges like:
Allocation of the Party Symbols
Provision of time for political broadcasts on the State TV & radio Stations
Access to Electoral Rolls.
Allowed "40" Star Campaigners(Natioal Party)
Alloted a Symbol exclusively reserved for its use throughout the Country.
